Julie's Teaching Methods
“I can play chords by ear a little, but I have no idea what I’m doing.”
It’s a common enough problem. For people who have a strong inclination toward playing by ear, the lack of understanding can be a real hindrance to their growth as a pianist. This is why I offer lessons by ear and by note to students ages 7 and up, bringing you the best of both worlds.
Lesson books are handpicked according to the student’s needs and interests. I use popular courses by Faber and Faber, Alfred’s, Thompson, and others.
“I took piano lessons as a kid, but I played by ear and my teacher only taught by note. I wish I hadn’t quit.”
I can’t tell you how many individuals have relayed this to me. This is one thing that sets my teaching methods apart. Teaching by note and by ear is my specialty.
Over 8-years in the making, The Church Musician’s Piano by Ear Course is the basis on which you’ll learn to play by ear. Not only will you develop your ear, I’ll help you actually understand music. Course used exclusively at the studio.
